Multi-media Artist / Writer / Gardener
Jan Hasselius is a multi-talented person with many interests, which
include watercolors, acrylics, inks, oils, collages and pottery.
She also enjoys writing short stories, gardening, and costume design.
Jan has won awards in watercolor, collage, acrylic inks, costume
design and writing. Her short stories have been published in the
NY Times Best Seller, Chicken Soup for the Gardeners Soul as well
as national syndicated magazine and is a University of Minnesota
Master Gardener. Jan has won many statewide awards for her art,
including "People's Choice" and "Awards of Excellence"
and has been accepted into many statewide and national Juried Art

Jan turned to art after an accident that temporarily limited her
mobility for six years. She enjoys watercolor but found that experimental
art in many mediums really excite her. Working with handmade oriental
rice papers opened a new world in collage which she has expanded
to experimental methods in acrylics, oils, pottery, and inks.
She a member of many Minnesota art groups including; Anoka County
Arts Alliance, Artist del Norte, Artists of Minnesota, The Alphabeteers,
Banfill Locke Center for the Arts, Blaine Fine Art Committee, Edina
Art Center, Hopkins Center for the Arts, and Aitkin County's Jacques
Center for the Arts. Janice is the President of Artist del Norte
and is the editor for their monthly newsletter. Jan is also a member
of Artists del Norte's Juried Rotating Art Show.
She is actively engaged in encouraging art and artists throughout
Minnesota through political and local action. She is the contact
for art displays in the art galleries for Blaine City Hall through
the Blaine Fine Art Committee. She also is the Co-Chairperson for
the Northern Showcase Statewide Art Competition sponsored by Artists
del Norte. Jan also was the Chairperson for Art in the Gardens for
three years in the Northern Suburban Area (Anoka County, Mn. USA).
She has taught workshops through Banfill Locke Center for the Arts
and Artists del Norte as well as private classes and lessons.
Jan Hasselius embraces art in all its forms, as a gardener, costume
designer, short story writer as well as watercolors, acrylics, inks,
oils, collages and pottery.
